This site was created on the occasion of the 600th anniversary of the founding of the historic Chřibská glassworks, one of the oldest continually running glassworks in the world, established in 1414. The municipality of Chřibská is located in the region of North Bohemia, Czech Republic and is historically renowned for its glassmaking. The first glassworks in the area were founded here at the turn of the 13th and 14th century, because there were ideal conditions for the development of glassmaking.
Illustrating glass production, this site takes you through the rich history of times gone by until today. Glass is a refined material and only in combination with light does it achieve its glorious luminescence. The title, The Path of Light, pays homage to Bohemian glassmaking, as well as all those who crafted it or otherwise contributed to the fact that today Bohemian Glass is understood as a trademark of quality and luxury worldwide. The Bohemian tradition and the culture of glassmaking are a part of Czech history and its foundation. Our responsibility is to inspire and empower the next generation to keep this tradition alive.
One of the most significant trends of the recent years is concept of light installations made of glass that are custom-designed for specific interiors. This led to an entirely new phenomenon of installations found in the luxurious hotels, private residences and unique public spaces worldwide. One of the first pioneers of designing and producing such installations is Lasvit – a Czech company which perfectly builds bridges between the tradition and contemporary design.
